Neutron Logging System for Oil and Gas Exploration
The neutron logging system for oil and gas exploration is a logging instrument to obtain formation properties of drilling profile. It carries out direct measurement on neutron and gamma ray that produced by the reaction of neutron and elemental nucleus in the formation. Neutron logging plays an irreplaceable role in oil and gas exploration. Based on characteristic gamma rays produced by the reaction of neutron with elemental nuclei, neutron logging is the only logging method that can distinguish the elemental content (CHO, etc.) in the formation. Due to high penetration depth of neutron, neutron logging is especially applied for logging in complex formation. Based on the innovative neutron transport theory and high intensity deuterium-tritium neutron source technological achievements, FDS Consortium has carried out the research and development of the neutron logging system, and overcome technical difficulties of mini neutron generator, inversion of elemental concentrations, and unfolding algorithm of neutron-gamma spectrum. At present, the Mini Neutron Generator (MINEG), the core components of the neutron logging system, has been developed with good temperature resistance( up to 175?), high neutron yield (108~109n/s) and long working life (up to 500 hours).
